A COFFEE CAN FOUNDRY AND
PERLITE IN HOMEMADE REFRACTORY MATERIALS

Someone emailed us recently about this special and unusual use of perlite. It's about using perlite to make a homemade "coffee can foundry". The site has pictures and a number of very helpful and interesting links.

You can read about this at http://www.visi.com/~darus/foundry2/ where the author describes his quest for a simple, inexpensive homemade foundry.

On his web page, you will read about how his foundry was lined with a layer of castable refractory insulation approximately 2" thick.

The nice thing about Jim's site is that he offers lots of pictures to let you see what he did and how it works!

(Please note: Jim Darus isn't an employee or customer of The Schundler Company, and neither he nor The Schundler company assumes any responsibility for this information. We are just trying to "pass along" unusual uses of perlite and vermicuite we find on the internet. So have fun, be careful, and don't burn yourself!)
